Safety First
Not only have all of the 2014 Subaru models been awarded under IIHS standards as a TOP SAFETY PICK, but the newest two vehicles the 2015 Legacy and 2015 Outback follow suit, and are also top safety picks. Some of them, with eyesight (an optional forward collision warning system with autobrake), are even TOP SAFETY PICK+!! No other brands have all models in the top category.
What does it mean to be a IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK?
The IIHS conducts rigorous testing on all makes of vehicles. They crash them into walls at various angles to see what damage entails. The small overlap front crash test mimics the most common of on-road crashes. The Outback and Legacy aced these rounds. To qualify for Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn a good or acceptable rating for small overlap protection, as well as good ratings in the Institute’s moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners must meet those same criteria and also earn a basic, advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
Subaru has gained a reputation for manufacturing cars that meet superior levels of protection through the use of the most technologically advanced active and passive safety systems available. This results in cars that inspire confidence on every type of road, under all possible conditions and at all times.
No surprise, then, that the Subaru lineup continues to earn Top Safety Pick ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
