|Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)||
||The Subaru VDC (VDC is also known as electronic stability control) system utilizes advanced sensors to monitor and analyze if the vehicle is following the driver’s intended course. When the limits of stability are approached, the system automatically adjusts the engine output and brakes at each wheel to help keep the vehicle on-course. The Multi-Mode VDC system on the WRX STI offers three different settings – Normal, Traction and Off – giving the driver even more control over the performance of this purpose-built vehicle.|
|Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)||
||The ABS on the Subaru WRX and WRX STI incorporates the latest thinking on anti-skid prevention, as well as other features designed with added safety in mind. Electronic Brake-force Distribution automatically adjusts front/rear brake pressure under different vehicle loads, while Brake Assist automatically provides added stopping power in panic-braking situations. For the WRX STI, Brembo® brakes and Super Sport ABS bring even more control and performance to the picture. Full stop.|
|Advanced Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame||
||The strength that comes from within: This proprietary design strengthens the passenger compartment by linking the roof to the side pillars and the floor. As a result, impact energy coming from all directions is dissipated and diverted away from the passenger cabin. A front crumple zone and an engine designed to slide under the passenger compartment provide further protection in the event of a frontal impact.|
||The focus on passive safety is an integral part of the Subaru offering and always will be, even for the most high-performing vehicles in the line-up. This is the reason why the Subaru WRX and WRX STI both feature a full complement of supplemental restraints, including dual-stage deployment front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and side-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard occupants.|
The 2013 Subaru WRX and WRX STI represent the absolute pinnacle of the Subaru philosophy on vehicle engineering. These two cars offer a wide array of advanced technologies, such as Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD, the SUBARU BOXER engine and a rally-honed, long-travel independent suspension system. The net result: a pair of vehicles that deliver incredible acceleration, tremendous handling, unmatched stability on any surface and a significant edge over the competition.
|The spine-tingling SUBARU BOXER engine||
||Torture-tested for decades in the FIA World Rally Championship, the award-winning 2.5L turbocharged DOHC SUBARU BOXER engine benefits from its horizontally opposed layout, which naturally cancels out vibration and creates superior balance. The WRX and WRX STI further benefit from a super-efficient high-flow intercooler, two different versions of the Active Valve Control System and a less restrictive exhaust to produce high levels of low- and mid-range torque, breathtaking acceleration and surprising fuel efficiency. The WRX STI engine is a higher-performing version with increased output that features the SI-DRIVE engine management system with three different driver-selectable modes ranging from maximum response to optimum efficiency. This powerplant is the very definition of lightning in a bottle.|

|5-speed Manual Transmission (5MT)||
||Standard on the WRX, the 5MT is linked to a viscous-coupling limited-slip centre differential that provides near neutral handling and precise control under all driving conditions. The transmission itself is crisp, intuitive and direct, so it provides the perfect mode of expression for those who take their driving very seriously. The Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system also plays a starring role by delivering the kind of positive traction required of purebred sports cars.|
|6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT)||
||The short-throw, 6-speed manual transmission on the WRX STI is designed for speed, precision and bulletproof reliability. Built to withstand the significant torque of the turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine and the superior traction of this highly advanced version of Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD, this transmission is crisp, responsive and ready to deliver countless miles of adrenaline-pumping pleasure. The AWD system also features the multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential with four different settings to suit the mood.|
The highly rigid, MacPherson strut-type front suspension system is remarkably light and fine-tuned to optimize steering feel and handling precision. The design incorporates stabilizer bars for greater stability, direct response and improved driver feedback, as well a very wide track for a more planted feel in the corners. Honed over decades of punishing competition on the World Rally circuit, this suspension system is an absolute strength of the Subaru technical package.
The double-wishbone rear suspension utilizes stabilizer bars for a smoother ride and a truly stable feeling, especially when cornering. The rear bushings and shock absorbers have been fine-tuned to minimize harshness and soak up bumps easily, yet still increase stability, reduce understeer and maximize tire contact with the road. This rally-honed suspension system is also designed not to encroach into the cargo area, so it also preserves storage space.
