Spring Clean your Car

We spring clean our closets, our houses, our yards – so don’t neglect your car! Paying extra attention to your vehicle after the cold winter is especially important. Give it a little TLC by using this list a guide to getting the best out of your ride!

  1. Shower and shine!

After winter, salt can start to build up and erode the paint and other parts on your car. Washing and waxing can help extend the life and looks of your paint job. Start by using the hose and spraying your vehicle from top to bottom. This gets rid of any dirt of leaves that have accumulated that might scratch your paint while scrubbing.

Wash it like you mean it! Wash everything, including the spokes of your wheels and your license plate covers. Dirt can build up in these smaller nooks. Don’t forget to rinse completely, or leftover soap can build up causing streaks. Dry with a microfiber cloth or a chamois to prevent water marks.

Give your mats a good clean too! They’ve probably accumulated salt and dirt as well. A good hose down with a pressure washer is great to loosen up ground in grime. Hang to dry!

If you wax as well – keeps your paint looking fresh, and gives a protective barrier – always follow the manufacturers instructions. Most brands mention not to apply in direct sunlight. Why? If the surface of your car is too hot, the wax doesn’t bond properly, and can be harder to remove later on. It can also dry to quickly, leaving streaks and an uneven coat.

  1. Declutter!

During the winter we tend to get a little lazy and not clear out our car as much. Travel mugs, extra mittens and shoes can make your car feel cluttered. Take a minute to bring the things you don’t need in your car anymore, into your house, and clean out the trash as well. It’s a great idea to keep a small plastic bag in the door sill to collect your empty coffee cups and wrappers while on the go, and super easy to empty every week or so.

Don’t forget about the glove compartment and the console box if you have one. I know I’m super guilty of shoving gas receipts in there! Try and keep only important info in your glove box – insurance, ownership, dates of your last oil change and service – as well as your emergency roadside assistance number! A flashlight and a map never hurt as well.

  1. Check those wheels!

If the weather is staying about 7◦ or warmer, then it’s time to take your snow tires off! As the weather gets warmer, the pavement gets hotter. This can lead to the road eating up your winter tires much faster then you want it to.

If it’s not quite warm enough yet, then it’s always a good idea to give them a quick check. Make sure they aren’t worn down and that the tire pressure is correct. Doing so will ensure you get even tire wear, which leads to longer last tires. Believe it or not, it also helps with your fuel economy! Tires that are properly inflated require less energy and force to start moving, which means they use less gas.

  1. Get the junk out of your trunk!

If you happen to be one of those people that uses their trunk as extra storage, it might be time to reorganize! Take out the hockey bags, the spare winter brushes and anything else that isn’t used everyday.

  1. Bring your car in for service!

Spring is a great time to perform a quick inspection and general maintenance on your vehicle. If there’s anything that looks off or is concerning you, bring it in for a check up. Spring time is also a great time to get your alignment checked, as potholes and built up snow bumps can throw it off.

Introducing the 2017 Subaru Impreza!

World Premiere of All-New Subaru Impreza at New York International Auto Show

Tokyo, March 24, 2016 – Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the manufacturer of Subaru automobiles, has unveiled the all-new Impreza (North American specifications) at the 2016 New York International Auto Show.

The fifth-generation Impreza employs the completely revamped Subaru Global Platform architecture for the first time, significantly enhancing the body and chassis rigidity and strength. The Impreza also offers world-class collision safety and hazard avoidance performance, as well as far more driver-responsive handling and ride comfort.

The new Subaru Global Platform, together with Subaru’s core technologies such as the newly developed 2.0-liter direct injection Boxer engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and EyeSight driver assist system, represents a major advance in Subaru’s delivery of “enjoyment and peace of mind” for customers as the foundation of the next generation of Subaru vehicles.

The Impreza is the first production model to fully incorporate the company’s DYNAMIC x SOLID design philosophy. It also features a greatly enhanced interior and exterior finish as a next-generation C segment model that far surpasses its class.

The company plans to switch production for the North American Impreza from Japan to the United States at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, with the first units rolling off the line in late 2016.

Main Features of All-New Impreza (North American Specs.)

■  Subaru New Design Language and Its Signature Functionalities

The all-new Impreza further enhances its functionalities while fully incorporating the company’s DYNAMIC x SOLID design philosophy as the first production model. It also features a high-quality interior and exterior finish.

< Exterior >

  • The Subaru look is seen in the Wide & Low stance with its sporty impression, and in the unified three-dimensional structure extending from the hexagonal grille that symbolizes the Subaru identity to the hawk-eye headlights. The front face plays the role of starting point from which the front flows via the sides to the rear, with each part uniting into a solid form.
  • The rich inflection of the character line extending from the front fender to the door panels and rear shoulder, and the line rising energetically toward the rear from the lower door panel, give dynamism to the solid body surface. The powerfully extended fender flares express the reliability of Subaru All-Wheel Drive.
  • The rear combination lights sharing the same motif as the headlights express a Wide & Low stance similar to the front. The sedan body’s sleek styling from cabin toward trunk lid enhances the sporty impression. On the 5-Door body, a tightened cabin through the rear combination lamps and powerful looking shoulder silhouette enhance the sporty impression of the nimble 5-Door style.
  • The new model also combines the Subaru performance essentials of superior aerodynamics and visibility with advanced styling.

< Interior >

  • The combination of sporty and advanced design and sophisticated construction delivers an interior that far surpasses its class. The spacious design flows from the instrument panel through the door trim for a feeling of refinement.
  • The seats’ structures that are made more fitting to the bodies of passengers have been revamped to far surpass the quality of its class.
  • In the center of the instrument panel is an 8.0-inch touch-screen display for the infotainment system, which can connect with Apple CarPlayTM, Android AutoTM, and other setups. Detailed stitching on the instrument panel complements the quality feel.
  • In addition to the enhanced interior design, signature Subaru functionalities have been further strengthened including the excellent all-round visibility, spacious cabin, and cargo room.

■  Driving Performance to Achieve Enhanced Dynamic Feel

The new Impreza incorporated a number of improvements to achieve enhanced dynamic feel such as a secure and comfortable feel for the driver. Based on the thorough and precise analysis of the steering and pedal feedback, vehicle behavior, vibration and noise, and other elements that driver senses, the setup realize a dynamic quality that far surpasses its class as befitting this first in a new generation of the Subaru lineup.

< Body & Chassis >

  • The new platform dramatically increases rigidity throughout the body and chassis (a 70% to 100% increase over present models) and incorporates substantial improvements to the suspension system and achieve a lower center of gravity, bringing about highly responsive steering that allows drivers to control the vehicle precisely as they want. The eradication of unnecessary movement in handling offers superior straight-line stability and cornering performance to grip the road surface.
  • Optimized frame structure and stronger joints between parts allow the new platform to improve overall torsional rigidity by 70% over present models. This distributes the resonance and distortion throughout the body, greatly reducing vibrations from the steering wheel, floor, and seats. It achieves a quietness that goes beyond vehicle class.
  • The new platform increases the rigidity of the suspension mounting, improving the absorption of the suspension without warping the body of the car, and providing a smooth and comfortable drive. By mounting the rear stabilizer directly to the body, the new platform reduces the body roll of the vehicle by 50% compared to present models.
  • Active Torque Vectoring enhances turning and steering performance.

< Power unit >

  • Around 80% of the parts on the FB 2.0-liter direct-injection Boxer engine employed on the new Impreza have been completely revamped compared with previous naturally aspirated engines, making the new eingine lighter to deliver more power and fuel economy.
  • The improved Lineartronic greatly enhances ratio coverage and lightness to boost acceleration performance and fuel economy. As well as employing full auto-step shift control, the Impreza features a 7-speed manual mode function that allows the driver to accelerate as desired.
  • Noise and vibration are greatly reduced on both the engine and transmission, for more pleasant sounds and a dynamic feel.

■  World-Class Safety

Subaru’s safety performance has continuously been highly rated by third-party organizations. The new Impreza has adopted technologies to further enhance its safety including the new platform and the advanced preventive safety system.

  • The new platform achieves a center of gravity that is 5 mm lower than present models. Together with the major improvements in rigidity and the evolution of the suspension system, this lower center of gravity offers outstanding hazard avoidance capabilities on a level with a high-performance sports car.
  • Thanks to a frame structure that enables more efficient energy absorption in the event of collision and the enhanced body strength resulting from the increased use of high-tensile steel plates including materials formed by the hot press method, impact energy absorption is improved by 40% over present models.
  • EyeSight, Subaru’s innovative and highly acclaimed driver assist technology, delivers extremely reliable preventive safety and reduces driver burdens through features such as Pre-Collision Braking Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist function.
  • The new High Beam Assist employs an EyeSight stereo camera, automatically switching from high to low beam according to what is happening ahead of the vehicle. Steering Responsive Headlights moves the beam right or left when turning at corners and intersections to illuminate the direction of travel. The Impreza employs the two headlight controls for the first time, dramatically improving nighttime visibility and recognition capabilities of EyeSight.
  • The Impreza has newly adopted an automatic braking system for reversing. When the vehicle is reversing, a sensor inside the rear bumper detects obstacles and alerts the driver for possible collisions. If that driver fails to act, the system automatically brakes to prevent a collision or reduce damage.
  • The Impreza newly employs blind spot detection and reversing assistance to enhance all-round preventive safety.
